A little “chefy”-A lot of history
A one-of-a-kind historic bar
Constructed in 1880, The Wooden Nickel served as the area tavern until prohibition period, later becoming a local pool hall. Beloved by locals, this historic establishment was reassembled by the community after a devastating fire in the 1985. The original bar still stands, which traveled by train from Philadelphia to Leadville, circa 1895, finally delivered by horse-drawn wagon to its home in Crested Butte.
The contemporary iteration of The Wooden Nickel is anything but… Original materials were used to reassemble this landmark, offering additional seating and event space. The enduring structure is dressed in beautifully preserved wood panelling, crushed velvet and brass fixtures. The wear from years of good times sets the stage for the most genuine old western Colorado experience. Today, the Nickel provides rifts on era specific cocktails, modern drink trends and chefy takes on classic dishes. Available for standard service and special events.
